Swearing, and using the Lord's name in vain.
Establishing a support system is CRUCIAL to help you overcome your addictions.
I have also realized that other addictions are swearing,
Or in the case of military men they were so accustomed to "*uck this, or *uck that" which no doubt helped them to continue the practices in which they used. One GI on returning home to his parents. His parents, asked him, "Joe you are so quite you never say anything?"
Joe said, "I can't, I am afraid of *ucking up."
Another part of why you could be doing this addiction is because of your environment. Getting yourself in a safe place is key to overcoming your addictions. If you have an addiction with alcohol and always get drunk in the bars, don't go to any bars. Or if you cannot escape your enviorment, understanding that although you are in a certain environment it does not necessarily mean you have to conform in the way that they are talking.
Do not fret if you have/or are doing what this young GI is doing. Sometimes the only way to survive is by conforming. However try to have the will power now that you are out of the environment to change your nasty habits. Just by making a conscience effort, is ten steps above those of the average person with addictions.
Commitments
Commitments
The first thing is that we must find, is someone in which we have a certain amount of allegiance to. This could be your parents, spouse, someone who is close to you, or even through God. You must make a commitment to do what you know is right. This includes not only a promise to yourself that you will stop this addiction, but that also you are promising others that you will try to stop this. You must do everything in your power to stop this bad, destroying habit.
For instance. The addiction to alcohol-
- First: the man take a drink
- Second: the drink takes a drink
- and Third: the drink takes the man!
Habits, and Overcoming Addiction
Where do habits come from?
Lets first define habits, what are habits, and how do we acquire habits?
A habit is, a recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition. Habits: Robert Puller once said, “Good habits, once established are just as hard to break as are bad habits.” Memory and habits are the main controller of all that we do. Habits control our happiness and unhappiness. Addictions are based on this as well as attitudes and how well we get along with other people. Habits control our entire happiness.
According to one survey that the UWC has published, habits cannot be broken unless it is intertwined with a habit destroying article and or action seven times. For example if we have a habit of doing something that is not practical to ourselves or disliked by other people. Using the old statement of practice makes perfect we must put this into our mind forcefully! Such as an influential speaker given illustrations seven times. The key is that the illustrations must be by different origins, and have equal power upon our mind in order to be effective. Finally, our minds will say “Okay, Okay! I give up! I will do as you suggest.”
Addictions are desires or impulses that come upon us in times of temptation suddenly and powerfully. We must have some way to resist the temptation to give into addictive influences. The best way to do this is to replace the bad thoughts with good thoughts, filling our minds with light and truth so that darkness cannot exist.
One way to do this is to read and remember spiritual stories which remind us of all that is good and true in this life. These type of stories can be found here on our site, and are well worth the time and effort it takes to read them. However, we don't always have the time to read through a full story when tempting thoughts enter our minds. How then are we to invite the spirit of these stories into our minds without reading them?
The way to do this is to use music, which brings to mind memories and thoughts much quicker than reading does. By setting stories which invite the spirit to music, which plays while you listen to the words, your mind will associate that tune with the story. Then, when the music is played by itself at a later time, the words and spirit of the story are brought to our remembrance. As the spirit of these stories lighten our minds, the temptation to give into addictive behaviors is taken out of our minds.
Here on our site we have collected several such stories and put them to musical tones which will trigger memories. We use the same tunes for similar types of addictions. This way there are specific musical tunes for specific addictive impulses, making the programs much more effective in targeting and combating a particular addiction. Our goal is to help overcome any addictions, whatever they might be.
Some of the additive influences that our programs are designed to overcome include:
- Pornography
- Alcoholism
- Drug Addictions
- and any other addictions....
As you listen to these stories, pay special attention to the promises or covenants which are made, and which bring blessings when obeyed. These are the types of promises which have made or which we must make to ourselves and with God, which we must remember when faced with temptations. These promises can help us to overcome these temptations.
These music programs will be available on our site to be downloaded or played from computers, MP3 players and CD players so that they will be available to you at any time, and in any place where you might have addictive impulses.
Be sure to check back to our website periodically, as we will be updating and adding to our content regularly.
If you have any inspirational or spiritual stories which have helped you, your family or your friends to overcome addictive influences, please share them with us so that the lives of others can be blessed also. Please contact us at: fuindex@gmail.com.
Thank you.

Being Homeless
When I recovered I realized that I was in a work area and someone hearing the crash came out to see if all was okay. I said, I think I will be okay. He then left me be, to dig my way out of the freezing snow. As I dug my way through to find out how to release the door handle, I wondered what can I do now, my whole world was in my station wagon which I was suddenly being evicted from. I did not know anyone in that part of Alaska.
I had been to church one time and thought I remembered vaguely where the church house was. I didn't know where anyone lived or how to find anyone or what their names were. It was time for the Lord to come to my rescue. The Lord did come to my rescue, which reminded me of the fact that at the church house, they had a restroom (which was connected to the gym). The restroom was opened, and I was able to get into the church. I had just settled down when the care taker of the building came to check on the facilities. He found me sprawled on the floor of the gym. He said, I have a better place for you to stay. You can stay with me at my house.
What has changed from the happiest moment in my life, to the worst feeling of my life when I had found that I had fallen down a 12 foot embankment and was absolutely homeless without any supplies. Because of someones goodness I was able to have everything alright again.
He asked me if I had ever been addicted to anything and I was happy to say no. Even to pornography he asked, and I was able to say no. If I had answered different I would not of had any right circumstances that rough November.

I remember the first time that I help build a bar many years ago. I was getting along fine building the barn, until I looked down and immediately froze. My associate said never look down only look up and you will get along fine. This is like unto addictions.
When it (addictions) takes possession of your mind. . . you cannot look down. You cannot regress into what you used to in order to feel better. You need to change your focus to something higher. A different horizon. Never look down again or you will be wors off then ever before.
Making sure that you never look down allowed me to accomplish that prinicpal what others said could not be done.
